Subspace Trasmission From EDF Command. Open Hailing Frequencies. To the Command Staff of the U.S.S. Valdemar.
Hello Christine, I hope the refit is to your satisfaction. More personnel are about to be transferred to the Valdemar within the next few days, so you'd better be ready for action. They'll be dropped off by the U.S.S. Sutherland so say "Hi" to Captain Shelby for me.

::Commander Tass enters the Room as the captain is reading her orders:: New crew are coming aboard Ma'am I have looked through some of there backgrounds,I am thinking that we need to start Security training on board as soon as possible, I want a good idea of what the Security people can do before we get out of space dock. Alot of the recruits look like they are fresh out of the academy-I don't want them panicing on a mission.

As the Cheif finished her report I felt a certain satisfaction in seeing proof that I had chosen well. I replied "Thank you, Commander. Very good thinking. You have my permission to begin tactical training and drills. As to the crew replacements, I have just recieved a transmission from Command, we are assured new crew will be coming aboard.
The Sutherland will be roundevouing with us within the next few days, so be prepared to help them integrate smoothly. I also have a feeling we should be ready for anything, and soon." I stepped around my desk and leaned on it's edge, "So far, you're doing an excellent job, Commander. I think you'll be just fine. Carry on." With that I returned to my seat, and the Commander left. I began composing my response to Command.

::Smiling, I replied:: "You're Welcome, but I'm not the one who did all the hard work to get you here. Your excellent record and hard work is responsible for that. I am gratefull to have such a reliable, ethical person on my crew."

After running the first sets of Drills, and getting the Hand to Hand to hand traing done,I report back to the captain::Ma'am I am thinking that shipwide drills would be a good way to hone the edge of the Security teams,I have initiated Hand to Hand Drills also, I would like your permission to run encounter drills through the halls- with *laser* tag. That way the Security teams get a better feel for the lay-out of the ship, they get to recognise good hiding spots,Good defensible positions, and how to mount assaults on any *intruders* we may encounter.

"Sounds like an Excellent Idea, just make sure you inform crew and coordinate with departments in the area's you're planning on running drills, so they can keep out of the way as much as possible, and let you know when a good time to run drills so you're not in the way of their work."

After the drills had started, things began to move rather quickly. Finally, spacedock let us out...I was begining to chaffe at the bit...and while we orbited the Sutherland showed up....
::"Captain Shelby! Thank you for your help. I send you greetings from the Valdemar, and our Fleet Captain Simpson also sends his best regards.!"
Captain Shelby responded in kind, sending her best regards back to the Fleet Captain, and the Sutherland went upon its way, to its next mission.
New crew began checking in with the bridge...and I began going over the crew profiles...I needed to start getting to know the people who would serve under me.

Several hours later Ensign Brickley called..notifying me of more new crew profiles. I had been at this for awhile now, and I decided I would finish this one and get some food. Then a nice 5 hours rest, and I would start again.
I thought it was just about time for night shift to be coming on duty, and looked at the roster for the night shift. Apparently, Mr. Brickley had requested to be head of night shift, taking over the bridge from me..and normally I would let him do that, however he had been working a full shift on communications already, and he was the least experienced. Even though we were in safe orbit, with no apparent reason for worry, I still felt a little uncomfortable giving him the shift, so I called on of the more experienced junior officers to take the shift. Then I called Brickley into my Ready Room.
"Mr. Brickley, I am sorry, I cannot let you pull a double shift, especially considering there is no immediate need for that. However, if you wish, once Communications is in order, I will let you take half your first shift off to rest, so you can take the night shift tomorrow night. Will that be satisfactory?"
Mr. Brickley replied::"Thank you Captain! I am honored you were willing to even consider my request. I promise I won't let you down." He smiled hugely and saluted.
I saluted back and said::"At ease. Well, your certainly capable, and I like to give officers the chance to improve their skills. I'm sure you will do well. Dismissed." I smiled slightly and he left.
I yawned, ooh time for some ZZZZ;s

After sleeping 7 hours, much longer than I normally do, I had morning excercise on the Holodeck, then breakfast of English muffins and juice. Then I pre-ordered a cup of coffee to be waiting for me in my Ready Room replicator. As I entered, the replicator hummed, depositing my coffee. I walked over picked it up and just as I was about to sip, the comm went off. "Ensign Brickly to the Captain." I sighed, put the cup down and hit my commbadge. "Captain here, What is it Ensign?" He replied "I have recieved a communique from Starfleet Command. Shall I send it to your Ready Room?" I walked over to my desk, and activated my screen. "Yes, thank you Ensign. Captain out." I finally sipped my coffee. After reading the orders, I added them to the ships logs under the heading Nuetral Borders, then I began readying the ship for final departure.
First, I called up Ensign Brickly...I asked him to request clearance for departure.
Then I decided it was time. I called Cmndr Krahulik and asked her to come to my Ready Room.

::As Tass sat in a chair, I reached out a hand involuntarily. At first it seemed almost like she was going to faint. Then she said yes, and I smiled and rotated my hand so she could shake it.:: "Wonderful!! In that case, Congratulations, Commander. Report for your first duty shift as First Officer!"

I headed to the Bridge.
