I trust the captain more than my own right hand and we've been through so many missions for the captain to deserve that trust BUT Nikki Raven was something else!
I noticed a sly look I received and took it for what it was. She won't back me in any situation!! Can I trust my life with this "drop out" if push comes to shove?
I continued to watch and listen...

"Lieutenant. Sit down and relax before you strain something. We still have a few hours before reaching our destination. I don't see any reason to stand on ceremony. Don't think about me as your Commanding Officer. We're just three people sharing a trip. Now it's your choice what you do. Take the helm, relax here in the lounge, or even take a bunk and get some rest. I for one am going to relax here for a while, then head back to the control cabin when we're almost there."
He sat back and took another drink. He was obviously settling in for a while. He closed his eyes and rubbed at them with his free hand, then looked at Nikki again with that sideways smile.
"You can stand to attention there for the whole trip if you want, but it won't get you any merit points."

D'Vorl checked the bridge chronometer and suddenly stood from his command chair on the bridge of the Romulan Heavy Frigate.
"I'll be in my quarters until the Federation vessel arrives." As he walked towards the bridge door, he glanced at his Second in Command. "Take control until I return."
The Bridge Crew all tried to glance at him without making it obvious. It was unusual for a Romulan Commander to leave his post during his assigned duty rota.
D'Vorl made his way to his quarters and waited for the door to close behind his, than sat on the edge of his bed. His mind was heavy with dilema. Should he go through with his plan? It may be his only chance. But if it failed, it would mean his DOWNFALL.

He knew he was playing with fire. Would he be victorious? If he failed, would he survive? Did any of the Crew know what he was up to? Was he being observed in every action he made?
The pressure was all too much for him, but he had no choice. A quick time check. Still a while before they would arrive. He couldn't stand the torment as his hour of choice arrived. He'd thought about it for years, but actually decided to do something about it only a few months ago. Months of planning all hinged on this one meeting. He could only do this if he could fool both the Federation Officers and his own Crew.
When the time came, he may not even get the chance to do it. There was also the chance he may be too afraid to do it. Time would tell.
For now, all he could do was sit in torment.

"Spider monkeys live in evergreen rainforests, semi deciduous and mangrove forests, almost never coming to the ground. In these forests they live mostly in the upper canopy, preferring undisturbed high forest. They will be found in other forest types if habitat is limited, hunting pressure light and other primate competitors are not present. They are more flexible than their South American primate cousins in habitat adaptation."

He turned towards Nikki with a genuinely warm smile.
"Well that certainly suprised me! I was really expecting to see some horror from a forrest planet or something."
His smile dropped and his eyes widened.
"Unless you mean some other form of planet spider. I really don't like spiders you know. A monkey I can deal with. But not spiders."

"Funky is not quite the term I would have picked."
The colour was draining from his face.
"Let's hope I never have to visit System 53412. Well, not without a phaser anyway. I need a sit down."
He walked to the replicator. "A very strong sweet coffee please." He realised the replicator was going to query him so he added "Turkish coffee, triple sweet."
He returned to his seat looking very pale and glanced at his first drink. He grinned weakly at it and said "I'll get back to you later. When I'm back to normal."
He sipped at the new coffee and puckered his face. Pausing a while in a grimmace, he eventually swallowed then took a big swig that almost finished the cup. He then poured what was left into his first drink and cradled it.
"Have you ever been to System 53412? Either of you?"

Realisation slowly dawned across his face and his expression grew somber.
"Ah. Yes." Trying to regain plesant conversation, he added, "I was so distracted by the thought of whatever a Spider Monkey could be, I lost composure for a while there."
He looked to his First Officer for a rescue comment.

LCARS screen displays... Incoming Transmission from U.S.S. Centaur "Captain Simpson, we were patroling the Neutral Zone when we detected three Romulan Warbirds sweeping around and heading towards your rendez-vous point. We're a long way from you so I reckon it'll take them a day and a half to get there. I'm also guessing they detected us, as they cloaked themselves. I'd also put good money on the fact that they're not on the welcome list. Take care and be vigilant. Centaur out."

"Computer, Send acknowledgement."
He started pacing up and down the room, scowling as he went. Obviously he was deciding the best course of action.
"Computer, activate EDF Sensor Mask."
The EDF Sensor Mask was a sensor jamming field which he himself had invented. Not quite a cloak, but it made them invisible to most sensors.
"Computer, what's our E.T.A.?"
