Voted all 3. Maybe we need a LotR section?

Changed around the story too much. Made a total mess of the books.

Changed around the story too much. Made a total mess of the books. I concur whole heartedly. I await a decent remake, and I never thought I'd ever want to see a remake!

I'm a fan of the books, but not the poor films.

qavan, I have seen the three films and read the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and the Silmarilion, and I can say that I liked them all. Though purists would say that the books are the best, but you have to look at each for their own merits as the films can never be the same as the books. So you view each differantly and judge accordinly, but this is my oppinion and we all have our own distinct and differant oppinions, which makes for conversation and disscusion, and that is the point, to make you think and wonder. And to wonder about things is one of the great things in LIFE. Qapla' Kollos

As one of my favorite authors wrote...." Words are the essence of thought. Without words, there is no thought....but I also wonder if there could be any words without the thoughts...

Has anyone wondered what it would be like if we had no hypothetical questions?
I like all three movies and have been a reader of all JRR's work for many years. My view is that the filmmakers have managed to turn an impossible task into films which certainly capture the mood of the story (they are supposed to have a reasonable amount of sameness as all three refer to the same story!!! - by the way), but I do have my niggles about them as well - like the Ford of Bruinen scene - what the hell is Arwen doing out there??? Frodo is supposed to do that chase on the horse ON HIS OWN - showing the hidden strength of hobbits - and fancy crediting an ordinary elf with Gandalf's handywork with the white horses! Anyway ...... I could ramble on!
I have to say, that for their genre, they are the best made yet - and I enjoy them immensely. If the theatrical versions are all you have seen, then you neeeeeeed to see the extended versions! They are far better edited, there are loads more book scenes back in them and they flow vastly better than their much shorter cousins! I know a fair number of folk who have changed their minds on these films once they have seen these!
Thats all for the mo!
(phew) ;D

I loved all 3 movies, but FOTR stands out - Ive been waiting for the rings to be a film for 28 years, so when I saw Hobbiton I almost messed my trousers, it was as if P.J. had been in my head.

On fellowship I was pretty upset, I hate to be left hanging at the end of any movie. The Two Towers was excellent, hands down, top quality. Return of the King left me wanting more again. kinda felt hanging. All together I think the series is top notch.
