Geolocation technology has improved and is now more accurate than ever before. Which means what you see and what you are allowed to do can depend greatly on where and even who you are. Google Inc., which already redirects foreign visitors to country-specific home pages, expanded geolocation in April to let merchants target ads by city or distance from a given address. RealNetworks Inc. has already begun offering soccer games and movies restricted to specific countries. Supporters of the technology argue that geolocation alone does not identify specific usere, and that the web traffic can be directed more efficiently. Making the web experience more 'Globally Meaningful' We all want the quickest route to whatever we are looking for, but can we really believe we have control over the sites we are seeing if our ISP address only allows access to certain pages or areas of the web. The 'Information Superhighway' instead of opening up our horizons is now limiting what we can see by our location, and it is deciding which road we should take. :oBig Brother is certainly beginning to watch over everything we do. SUSIEG, This actually not news to me,Big Brother has been watching for a very long time(yes,I do happen to believe in the conspiracy theory). But they have been watching where you go, what you read,(especially in the schools) what you listen too on radio, and even what you watch on television(the decency law's have done most of that for us). Why would it surprise you that they are know even intruding on what you can look up on the net? They know the money you carry with you when you leave the country(haven't you ever wondered about the metallic threads running through the currency(yeah it MAY help against conterfeiting but it does more than that they can read what the bills are through the threads) Heck since 9/11 they have the right to intrude into your pesonal life and don't have to use search warrants to do it anymore. They have the right to tap your phone and plant bug's in your home(all you have to do is insult the president and you have a file on you started--well I darn well hope they LOVE mine) They regulate the gun's you can own,the drug's you buy(over the counter and prescription) The coffee you buy and the Tea you drink. It is the way of governments and of the so called "elected" officials(even when the popular vote of the people went the other way) They type you according to religious conviction, and where your family comes from. They tell you what you can and can't learn in school,They tell the teachers what they can and can't teach(isn't it amazing how they gloss over all of the fact's of history and give you a water downed pseudo version of what they consider to be the truth) They have done this for so long that the general populace doesn't even know it and if you stand up and say NO then YOU become a target, and You are considered to be a threat against the American Way of Life. Well from where I sit Hail to the anarchist and down with Big Brother--there they can add that to there profile, along with my religious convictions--NON CHRISTIAN(Gasp) The Fact that I own and use Gun's(the right to bear and keep arms,NRA all the way) and I say down with the government(freedom of speech)--LOL-- --Rant over--

I think you've missed the point on this one - Susieg was simply reporting a new feature of search engines to target advertising specific to your location.
A good example of this is the ones that come with these Message Boards - have you noticed that whilst browsing the Star Trek pages that the ads at the top of the screen are for Star Trek items?

Actually I do not get the Ad's at the top for some reason. I have seen what people have written about them but I do not have them on my machine(?) I thought maybe it was the pop-up blocker I had in place but I turned it of one time and I still don't get the ad's---But I did hear about the ad's and how they are keeping track of the threads topic's on Titan Rainbow's site---I thought she was referring to the fact that depending on where you are in the world You can only get certain pages on searches--Like when I came here it was from the link you had put up on the Finnegan's Squad page because when I searched for the website I was not able to find it using search. It would not search internationally. which is again strange.
