Nothing new about Berman pondering, Nemesis was the most ponderous motion picture of all time, as the record shows, I have always felt it was a lost opportunity, and Berman and company lost sight of the projects potential from day one. As much as I like Patrick, he spent most of the movie behaving in a classical style, I almost fell asleep whilst watching it with Dax in Marble Arch. Shame the battle sequence and alliance with the Romulan Valdore ship was not developed more thoroughly, but I still treasure a superb image of that Romulan craft on the computer. As for the new movie........No, not one trick Sinise again....he was part of the problem with 'Mission To Mars'....great film, shame about Sinise. He suits CSI New York perfectly and carries the series superbly, but sci-fi drama, better to have The Rock, at least he is eye candy for the ladies. ;D Peace and Long Life. A

A The Rock??? nah that is not my kind of eye candy. I think Sinise is very good and cute eye candy too - I loved Mission to Mars, so don't agree there, Anubis. Nemesis was quite boring though, I agree, I think the problem was the non-trekker Baird directing and main actors having too much to say about story (i.e. gold ol' Patrick). Mmm Sinise as McCoy... they are a bit a like I think... Looking forward to the film anyhow! dax

I quite likes Nemesis, but have only seen it a few times, I think I'm one of the few who did enjoy it, but we all like something different! But I must agree with Dax, I think Sinise is a good actor, I did enjoy him in Forest Gump! And I think Sinise would be great as McCoy!

Yes, I think he'll be good - he certainly looks like young Spock! It will be cool with Nimoy being cast too. dax

Yes it will definitely be interesting to see if the story in the new film will be any good (it could be a potential distaster with this prequel thing... however, they eventually did it right with Enterprise in its 4th season, so there is hope). There has been several rumours about big names and the last being Robbie Williams! as Kirk. Not heard anything yet about who will be the 'bad guys'... Will let you know all the best dax

More Trek News Yelchin Is Trek's Chekov Anton Yelchin (Alpha Dog) is in negotiations to play Pavel Chekov, the Russian-born navigator of the USS Enterprise in J.J. Abrams' upcoming 11th installment in the Star Trek film franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Russian-born Yelchin will join Zachary Quinto (Heroes) and Leonard Nimoy, who will both play the role of Mr. Spock in the film. Casting is under way in New York and London for Kirk, Bones, Uhura, Sulu, Scotty, the film's villain and the Federation captain. Abrams, who will helm the untitled film, is expected to sign bigger-name actors for the latter two parts. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the storyline is believed to chronicle the early days of the Enterprise crew during their time at Starfleet Academy. Chekov was played by Walter Koenig on the original Star Trek TV series, and he is a key member of the Enterprise crew. The film is scheduled to open on Dec. 25, 2008. Abrams Wooing Cruise For Trek? IGN Movies reported that J.J. Abrams, who is directing the next Star Trek film, would like to bring on his Mission: Impossible III star Tom Cruise for a cameo appearance as Capt. Christopher Pike, according to a "trusted source." Pike was once the captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise and Spock's (Leonard Nimoy) commanding officer prior to Capt. Kirk (William Shatner), which would fit with the reported flashback storyline in the upcoming film. The character was played by Jeffrey Hunter in the original 1966 Star Trek TV pilot, "The Cage," which was later edited into the two-part episode, "The Menagerie." There have been previous reports of Cruise's involvement in the project, which were denied by his spokesman, Arnold Robinson, last fall. At the time, it was thought that Cruise's public falling-out with Paramount head Sumner Redstone, who controls the rights to the Trek franchise, would prevent him from working with the studio again in the near future. But tensions between the two have cooled off lately, and, according to IGN's source, the cameo role would be seen as a favor to Abrams and not to Paramount.

Heard on the radio today that Simon Pegg is to be the new Scotty. Yes, quite a suprising announcement! I was trying to sway the choice to Chris Doohan, but I guess that's not going to happen now

News taken from STARTREK.COM
Karl Urban as McCoy!
New Zealander Karl Urban is set to play Dr. Leonard McCoy.
Urban has been in some high-profile films of late, including "The Bourne Supremacy," "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King," and "The Chronicles of Riddick." Urban's acting career began to take off back in his native New Zealand when he guest starred in several episodes of Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, both filmed in Auckland.
For the role of McCoy in J.J. Abrams' new "Star Trek" film, not much is known where we are in the story with the character of "Bones." Or if he even has that nickname yet!
With the announcement of Karl Urban as McCoy, this completes principal casting for the main bridge crew. Christopher Pike is one of the big parts remaining to be cast.
