Ohboyohboyohboy!!! I am so excited. I live in Iowa and as all Trekkies or Trekkers worth their dilithium know Riverside, IA is the future birthplace of Captain James Tiberius Kirk. He will be in Riverside for the next ten days filming for a movie he wrote and I get to go!!! They are also auditioning for 4 small parts in the movie, and I hope to get one of them. Wish me luck! My best friend has promised to get me there. If anyone has anything they want me to ask him or say, hit me with a pm and I will try to work it into the conversation. I will post afterwards and I may even be able to scan in a signed pic. I can't wait!

CCH,
Break a leg, love!
I was not aware that MR. WILLIAM SHATNER had written a screenplay recently, nor that he was to act in it.

Well, as it turns out he hasn't. It was a 'Punk' on Riverside, done for Spike TV! Unfortunately I did not make it there to see him, but I heard alot about it. Apparently, he had almost everyone in town wearing mic's and told them it was for a Priceline.com commercial. I also heard Leonard Nemoy was there. Anyway, I understand it was all just a big practical joke on the town and that they will be airing on Spike TV in the near future.

LOL not as dissapointed as I was with the Terry Ferrall thing, but that one was satisfactory in a way...I guess I wasn't as looking forward to meeting William Shatner. Although, I had heard Leonard Nimoy showed up too...and then I was way more interested. But I am sure I will get future chances. Thanks!

I have to admit Leonard Nimoy would be the bigger draw for me also. We have just booked to attend the London Expo in May 2005 where Mr Nimoy will be a guest and I am really looking forward to it. The have a professional photographer there also and you can have your piccy taken with him then have it signed which is a really great idea. I had this done when I met David Soul a couple of months back and it is nice to have a professional shot complete with autograph to commemorate the meeting. Susieg (Spock Fan)

Cool! Wish I had the money to go to that! Well, you should post the the Nimoy thread as soon as you get back, if you get the piccy. I bet it is nice to have the signed pic. I know we would have loved it had Terry had time to do that when she hugged Tom. Anyway, Good luck!

I didn't really like the fact that Bill punk'd Riverside, especially after they've done so much to promote Captain Kirk. I have met Bill several times and was lucky enough to be in a movie with him once. Bill punched me and I've been using that story as an icebreaker for years... The movie was called "The Kidnapping of the President" and Hal Holbrook played the Prez while Bill was the Head of the Secret Service. I played a photographer who tries to get too close to the Prez to get a shot so Bill clobbers me... Stompy

Well, being Punked is supposed to be a sort of Extreme Joke. Like Extreme Sports only with Practical Jokes. It's supposed to be fun and after all, Riverside did make a nice bit of cash off of that deal, as if they don't already make enough with the market mongering they do yearly. I've been to the Riverside festivities, and actually they are usually pretty lame and very expensive. Mostly its just selling, selling, selling. And you know they make mega profit.

I found more info on the whole thing. Here is the story. I found it at this link www.trektoday.com/news/170105_02.shtml William Shatner's Invasion Iowa will premiere March 29th on Spike TV, the network announced last Friday. "What happens when dysfunctional Hollywood crashes into 'small town America?' With the help of some of his show biz cohorts, Emmy Award-winning actor, William Shatner brings improvisational comedy to a new level with Invasion Iowa, a complex comedy where the people of Riverside, Iowa are under the impression that Shatner and gang are filming an independent sci-fi movie," states the press release, reproduced at The Futon Critic. This will be the first miniseries for Spike, a Viacom-owned network which also shows Star Trek reruns. The miniseries, which was planned for a year, centers on Riverside, Iowa - the fictional birthplace of Shatner's most famous character, Captain James T. Kirk. It will conclude on April Fool's Day, Friday, April 1, with the revelation that the "movie" being filmed is a hoax for a reality TV show. "I fell in love with the people of Riverside," said Shatner, who said he had trouble containing his sympathy for the people being duped by the series. With a population of 978, Riverside annually hosts a "Trek Fest" for fans of Kirk, Shatner and the Star Trek franchise. More details on Shatner's fictional entourage and other characters are available at The Futon Critic. I can't wait to see it, if I can find a way that is.
