I'm not sure if you've all heard about the Gutenberg project - an amazing resourse on the Internet (how *did* we manage without Internet ) - where you can download almost all the books you have to/want to read ;D FOR FREE
www.gutenberg.org
"Project Gutenberg is the first and largest single collection of free electronic books, or eBooks. Michael Hart, founder of Project Gutenberg, invented eBooks in 1971 and continues to inspire the creation of eBooks and related technologies today.
Project Gutenberg Mission Statement
To encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks."
Of course they have War of the Worlds (both as text and audio! Downside is that it is machine read... a bit... eerie... + impossible to understand..
And I remember I wanted to listen to The Ancient Mariner by Coleridge once and it was read by an American... Didn't sound right ;D, but then again, it is an American site...)
Ooops when I check further in Wikipedia I just learned that "The major themes of this epic poem [The Acient Mariner] are weaved throughout the film SERENITY (2005) by Joss Whedon. Although never mentioned by name, the significance of the albatross is described by the main character Malcolm Reynolds. "
Anyhow, this is probably more than you wanted to know - but the Gutenberg site is free and it's out there ... so just go for it!

"I must confess the stress and danger of the time have left an abiding sense of doubt and insecurity in my mind. I sit in my study writing by lamplight, and suddenly I see again the healing valley below set with writhing flames, and feel the house behind and about me empty and desolate."
War of the Worlds - H.G. Wells
