But I hope all of you have read the book ;D I saw it too yesterday and... quite liked it... I think. Not like a scifi-story exactly. Dealt more with emotions.... The aliens were not understandable (even though I guess that was the point ). Ferry thing - well you know I saw that coming a mile.... As soon as I saw all those people walking that narrow road leading up to the ferry. Well let's just say that is a road I wouldn't never have taken All in all a good film worth seeing I think. (I saw a great movie today though, "The Forgotten" with Julianne Moore - also *alot* of feelings with some alien elements. See it! Read about it here on imdb: www.imdb.com/title/tt0356618/daxmaryrussel (who also saw "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" today - a lovely film ;D ... mmm a truly great film weekend!) --- Our true nationality is mankind. I just got back from War of the Worlds tonight and I enjoyed overall but a few things I didn't like. *Spoilers* Being a fan of the novel and the original movie I was abit skeptical about it being re-made even though Spielberg was in charge of it. Things I liked; * Glad they kept the tripod design with the heat ray. * The red weed was used by teh aliens to terraform the planet. * The ending was the same which I've heard many people didn't like since it's not sophisticated enough. * Visual effects were awesome but then again it's ILM after all * I noticed a few of the sound effects were used from the original movie. And overall, I loved the new sound effects made for the tripods, especially when they were moving around. * The alien design was unique, I didn't expect to see them, just the tripods. * Lots of tension. * The story being told from a personal perspective rather than a perspective such as the military which is usually always done in alien invasion films. * The film portrayed mass hysteria well. * The acting overall was pretty good. Things I didn't like; * For some reason, Morgan Freemans narration just didn't seem to fit in. He seemed bored and had no enthusiasm when reading and I thought the guy who did the narration in the trailer was alot better. * The music, it just didn't strike me as good or epic unlike his scores for Jurassic Park or indeed Star Wars. It's a real pitty because I'm a big fan of John Williams. Overall 8/10, I'll be buying it on DVD for sure.

I really enjoyed it, much more than I enjoyed ROTS.
Didn't even mind with them messing with the story too much (eg moving it to the US and where the war machines came from).
Liked the personal touch that the filming had (would have hated it if it had all gone Independance Day). Had a bit of 'what's the worst monster on this planet' moments about it. V gritty.
Acting was great.
Specials amazing (great War machine designs)
Loved the nodds towards the old 50's film (like the granparents at the end)
Loved the music.
Defo one for the DVD collection.
9/10
