As I mentioned in one of my other posts there is the big 40th Aniversary Convention in Las Vegas 17-20 August www.creationent.com/cal/stlv.htm
There are a number of guests
Good (mega super expensive) tickets are gone since long, goodish (super expensive) tickets still there. Would be fun to go - but I supporse there will be sooo many trekkers that Blackpool 2001 will seem like a small family renunion? Anyone thinking about going? Kev, you were thinking about this one or the one in Sacramento? www.creationent.com/cal/stsac.htmdaxmaryrussel p.s. by the way, why isn't anyone else posting here - fellow WCP'ers, where are you --- "I don't know who they are but they don't look friendly." "I wish we could get closer." "I don't think they'll look any friendlier close up." Nog and Jake, at their first sight of Jem'Hadar - The Jem'Hadar

Hmmmmm, I am planning to go to Las Vegas this year as I love the city, its so, so, well, unAmerican, thats why its such a great place, a theme park for adults. Hotel accomodation for the period covering the Trek Convention is hard to come by, and the prices are inflated somewhat too, so I figured to go on the 5th September when room rates are low, the weather is beautiful and Quarks Bar is not crowded. Most of the stars attending I have managed to obtain their autographs without subjecting myself to the usual Creation restrictions, far better to get the signatures at Collectormania to my mind, and Creation will dominate this event, no bad thing, good for Trek, but I hate being corralled and branded and that is the only way that Creation can manage an event of this size and stature. I also like to spend at least 10 days in Vegas, I get more time and better value after Labor Day than if I went earlier. However, if any of you do go to Vegas for a three and a half week break we will certainly meet up. I also intend flying non-stop this time, I'll have a guest with me who would find it very difficult to negotiate the flight transfers that are a part of United or Delta flights to Vegas, looks like I'll have to fly Virgin unless BMI are still flying to the city direct. A direct flight with hotel would make my guest more comfortable, but means I'll be unable to stay at the Tropicana (my favourite old school Vegas hotel) which is not part of Virgin's package, but they do offer the Luxor. Suits me, Benny the barman at Luxor keeps a big supply of Negra Modelo my favourite Mexican super strength beer ;D Mind you, a plus is that it is not unusual to meet stars of Trek in Quarks during early September, they too love the ghost town feel of Las Vegas in the two weeks after Labor day, it is so relaxing If I can get an attractive package that covers late August I might be in the city, but I would only attend the convention using a day ticket. Peace and Long Life.

So what about the Autumn when, with a bit of luck, I'll be in Quarks with members of the Posse. We are thinking September Dax, I'm waiting for John and Brittney (Fort Lauderdale Chapter) to get back to me, Monica from Salt Lake City will be in town for sure, and I hope to persuade Dale from Glendale to come for a couple of days. Simon might be free too, unless he gets posted to Nevada by the air force, which often happens. It is much cheaper in Las Vegas in September, loads of deals available Engage...............

It is a pity we were not going later as it would have been nice to meet up with other members and also to be able to tap into your knowledge of the area. I have to admit a reduction in the expense would have been very welcome, but we had to plan around the rugrats. Schools are now very unhelpful re taking the little darlings out in term time (fines are now in force at my childrens school) and with Philip going to University in September (fingers crossed) the parameters were limited. We also wanted to attend at least one Vegas Convention, and with all of the changes in the Trek Universe we were also concerned that the Star Trek Experience may not be available in the near future (despite the noises from the Experience to the contrary) Maybe we will be able to get together another time Susieg

Heads up Posse....VIRUS WARNING. Andrea at Showmasters has just informed me via two urgent emails that a number of Showmaster locations are under attack by hackers. The forum seems to be the main target and it is now offline while Showmasters attempt to solve the major problems there, and, until I get an all clear, please follow this advice. Do NOT enter any Showmaster sites, including Collectormania, London Film or the various show sites for auctions. The forum is not available, but just in case, do not try to access it. Finally, do not open attachments or communications from Showmasters until I get an ALL CLEAR from Andrea. By all accounts, these hackers have delivered a particularly nasty piece of work into their system and they are determined to keep it isolated. I think it is commendable that Showmasters have a system that is so adept at giving an early warning of virus danger, unlike the majority of other sites, Microsoft take note, Explorer users are more likely to be infected by this little nasty. Posse members, please update your AV Systems and Firewalls if you have not done so in the last 2 days. Thank you for your support, keep the net bug free ;D
