A friend and I were talking about space above and beyond plus it is kind of similair to starship troopers.
So did the idea of starship troopers come from space above and beyond or was it the other way around? I can't remember the time frame of when they came out in the UK.

Starship Troopers is a science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein, first published (in abridged form) as a serial in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction (October, November 1959, as "Starship Soldier") and published hardcover in 1959.
The first-person narrative is about a young Filipino soldier named Juan "Johnnie" Rico and his exploits in the Mobile Infantry, a futuristic military unit equipped with powered armor. Rico's military career progresses from recruit to non-commissioned officer and finally to officer against the backdrop of an interstellar war between mankind and an insectoid species known as "the Bugs". Through Rico's eyes, Heinlein examines moral and philosophical aspects of suffrage, civic virtue, the necessities of war and capital punishment, and the nature of juvenile delinquency.[1]
Starship Troopers won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1960 and helped create a different genre of literature known as military science fiction. It has been adapted into several films and games, most famously the 1997 film by Paul Verhoeven. The novel has attracted controversy and criticism for its social and political themes, which some critics believe are militaristic.
The ''Starship Troopers'' movie was released in 1997.
''Space: Above and Beyond'' ran from 1995-1996.

I've read the book, Starship Troopers and quite enjoyed it, it was a lot different to the film, for a start Dizzy ( I think) was male!! Enjoyed the film as well, not seen the second one.
S:AAB I liked as well, same it get cancelled. But they were quite similar...might also throw in Wing Commander as a similar film, if you've not seen it.

It seems to me that often things come out in twos. DS9 and Bab5 leap to mind, 2 sci-fi shows about a space station, out about the same time. Armageddon and Deep Impact etc.
