Hiya,
Thought I'd drop a digital tidbit into the message board for all to read.
Neutral Zone - sci-fi north east (That's the North East of England, by the way) was formally known as the USS Exeter, primarily a Star Trek club. We've had a very strong club for over 10 years now but times have changed. The internet has brought all SF fans together to chat online and discuss things and meetings with real human beings doesn't seem to be a priority.
Recently it was decided by the group to rename itself in honour of the local convention that has run in the north east and become more than just a Star Trek club to bring in new members and add more fun to the club.
Plans for this year include :-
* Charity Costume day in Newcastle to raise money for the Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. April/May We've not been doing so much charity work recently so I intend to change this. We may even tie this in with Star Wars Episode 3. I have some buddies in the 501st so we may have a stormtrooper or two to fill our ranks.
* Trips and Events - Sometimes its good to get out and about and maybe visit places that some members might not have visited even when its on their own doorstep. I intend to organise a few bus trips come the summer to places like Alton Towers.
* Charity Cricket Match - Last years cricket match turned sour when rain called it off and a Darts match ensued. The trophy is still there and this year I hope that we get a whole bunch of new people donning the cricket whites and having some fun.
* Raising public awareness to the club and getting new members.
We've now got a website (www.sfne.co.uk), forum and yahoogroup on the go. Download the monthly newsletter from the site and catch what we're doing and maybe join the club and come to the meetings and help with our charity events. Its up to you.
So there you go. We're trying not to restrict the club in any way and are open to suggestions.
Who am I? Well I've been a regular columnist on the www.jedinet.com website with Star Park for over 5 years and a few hundred thousand hits. I also run the quiet little www.spoofpark.com and between that I have a darling little son and a Star Wars mad wife. What more could a man ask for?
