Could we see a return of our erstwhile reporter, Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files) is developing a rehash/update of Kolchak: The Night Stalker for ABC. I cant find too much information on this possible series return but will keep my eyes peeled ;D

SUSIEG,
Given that MR. DARREN McGAVIN shan’t be reprising his role as CARL KOLCHAK in THE NIGHT STALKER™, whom would you like to see cast?

Malcolm That is a hard one, Darren played the role so well it will be a difficult choice. I will have to get back to you on that one but in the meantime here are a couple of piccies to remind us of Darren as Carl Kolchak. Susieg

Just one thing concerning the casting. I hope they dont try and put one of the new 'young stars' in the part as I think he should be kept as a more mature character who has seen the world.
I have all of the episodes and the movies and thought it was a pity the show did not run longer, but a lot of good shows had the same fate. I do wonder why they keep renewing some, but I suppose it is all a matter of taste.

SUSIEG,
I grok the fullness of the totality! So much of CARL KOLCHAK’S appeal is that he is so very good @ his job, but has failed to achieve The Pulitzer Prize™ recognition that he deserves.
All of them?! CRIKEY! Good on ya, love!
I think it’s more a matter of profit margin in tandem with questionable taste, oftentimes, but there you are....

Found some but not alot of info about the new show on sci-fi wire. This is taken off of there ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kolchak Stalks Again?
Frank Spotnitz, one of the creative forces behind The X-Files, is developing a fresh take on the classic supernatural TV series Kolchak: The Night Stalker for ABC, the original home of the spooky series, Variety reported. X-Files creator Chris Carter often cited Kolchak as one of the inspirations for his own show.
Kolchak debuted as a pair of 90-minute telefilms in 1972 and 1973 and became a short-lived weekly ABC series in September 1974, with The Sopranos creator David Chase and film director Robert Zemeckis among its writers. Darren McGavin played a reporter named Carl Kolchak who had a tendency to uncover mysteries involving vampires, serial killers and other freakish occurrences, the trade paper reported.
It's unclear how closely the new Night Stalker will mirror the format and mood of the original, which was based on a novel by Jeff Rice, the trade paper reported. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sci-fi does have a site set up for the show: the BBoards make an interesting read but I can't get on to reply anymore (something about my server not being recognised ) The URL is www.scifi.com/kolchak/ They have quite a bit(for them anyway's) on there for the original's .
May I add that I would like to see someone like Michael Pare for the part of Kolchak. He did an excellent job of playing Dante Montana on StarHunter.

Yeah they do, but it wasn't just his eyes I was thinking of,he just has a sense of presense on the tv. An intensity that is awesome.

was that a tv movie where a reporter ends up under a city looking for a vampire or some such baddie - If it is I thought it was great - I was only about 10 when I saw it and I can vividly remember the underground set !

The Night Stalker you are talking about is a movie that was done by Stephen King,This was a tv series back in the 70's. But it was a very good series. I think that if you got a chance to watch it you would probably agree.

That sounds like the plot to the second Kolchak movie 'The Night Strangler' 1973 in which Kolchak investigates a series of murders and the end is based in an underground city. The script was based on a story by Jeff Rice Here is the plot summary from IMDB....... Reporter Carl Kolchak(Darren McGavin)is now in Seattle, Wahington, trying to solve the mystery of several strangulations that recur every few years where the victims are drained of blood in this second made for TV pilot. The strange thing about the killings is the fact that all the victims had some of their spinal fluid drained and that there was rotting flesh found around the victims necks. Soon Kolchak learns that simular killings have been occuring in the Seattle area every twenty-one years for over 100 years. The trail soon leads to Seattle's underground city and he winds up meeting the killer who tells him that he uses the spinal fluid for a elixer which has been keeping him alive. Unfortunately, it only lasts for twenty-one years and after that time period is up he must leave his abode and go looking for fresh victims. It is now up to Kolchak to stop this madman before he takes the elixer. www.imdb.com/title/tt0069002/The first Kolchak movie 'The Night Stalker' 1972 Wisecracking reporter Carl Kolchak, investigating a string of gruesome murders in Las Vegas in which the victims are drained of blood, concludes that a vampire is on the loose. Since the mayor, the police chief and his own editor think he's off his rocker, it's up to Kolchak to stop the bloodsucker himself. www.imdb.com/title/tt0067490/Hope this helps. The Night Strangler was the first time I encountered Carl Kolchak and I have to admit to being hooked. I am lucky enought to have both TV movies and the entire series which are still enjoyable today. Acknowledged, thanks for the intel!
MICHAEL PARE is certainly the most unique choice of re-casting for the role of CARL KOLCHAK that I have yet seen.

Michael Pare?
Had to look him up Sorry!
Not really my choice as he doesnt seem to have that lived in face look. I think it is a difficult casting choice and fans of the original will probably find a new face in there difficult to get used to in the first instance. Good casting of the character will help this.

Moonstone Books put out a very believable Kolchak comic for February, it comes as close to looking like the original television series as a comic book can. Its a two parter this month, and I'm looking forward to the next one, but sheese, I sure hated to see on television programs as a kid.
