I think it depends what you remember of the original. I have to admit to a preference for the old series, although the new one has its plus points.
I voted old series for the fond memories and the real cylons.

I thought I'd start this New Section with a Poll I prefer the Old Series BHK,
Please elaborate upon why this is so.
My own preference is for the current, "re-imagined" version of BATTLESTAR GALACTICATM, which has far more of the JOE HALDEMAN-style Military SF sensibility that I crave, as well as no shortage of Dramatic Conflict, Suspense & Intrigue.

I must agree with Malcom, this re-thought out version has a certain spin to it!

BHK,
Please elaborate upon why this is so... I think it's because I grew up with the Original - those great Viper fighters - the Cylons - the music. Watching the new one - I keep thinking "So where are the real Cylons?" "they look human now?" "Starbuck's a girl now?" I'm not a great lover of remakes anyway - I think they should have continued the original storyline - not scrapped it and say it didn't happen

The old show was great for it's time and I loved to watch it as a kid. Now i'm afraid that the intrigue and fantasy of the old show would not be as great as the once were. The new one has done a good job of grabbing my interest and making me want more. My vote would have to be for both, since for their time they are both teriffic.

I remember the older one with its Disco pants, girls in skimpy short dresses and that funky egyptian styling, new one has that hard on military aircraft carrier feel. And what about Galactica '80. Sheesh! I still love the old cylons. The new ones remind me of super battledroids from SW Episode 2, so it seems that BG is ripping off Star Wars again.

I prefer the new series, the Cylons and their ships are really cool. The interaction between #9 and Beltar is really well done.Plus having Cylons that look human adds another dimention too the storyline Colin.<*>.

I'm not a great lover of remakes anyway - I think they should have continued the original storyline - not scrapped it and say it didn't happen I loved the original when it was shown in the 70s-80s, and it was great for the time, but it dated so quickly. I love the remake, it is how I believe the original should have been, a fight for survival, not Star Disco. With regards to remakes, and scrapping early versions of favourite series, comics etc. it is important. Who would read stories of a Superman or Batman fighting criminals in their Eighties? With the eighties comic, Crisis on Infinate Earths, their wiped out the conveluted timelines and alternate universes created to explain the different superheroes that have appeared for decades. Change is good.

just having watched the original(with much nostalgia) they both have their merrtis but give me the new one with it grit and dirt over the cheesy over smiling (we just lost our entire race but what the hay) attempt at light hearted entertainment (dont get me wrong i love the old show ... but prefer the new).
i can wait to see how the new version pans out

COLIN,
Many thanks for posting that marvellous photograph of MS. TRICIA HELFER as #6!
I, too, like the CYLON drone fighter vessels, which have tremendous psychological impact on the basis of Aesthetics alone.

SR,
I thought that CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS™ was a good idea in principle, but DC™ began shortly after to do their multiple versions of a given character, yet again. I’ve lost count of how many re-tooled SUPERGIRLS™, POWER GIRLS™ & SUPERBOYS™ there have been.

Have to vote for the new version.
While I fondly remember the original as a youngster, the things that drew me to the show back then, od nothing for me now. The drama and grit of the new version have really drawn me in despite my early reluctance to give it a chance, as remaking a classic is usually nothing but a bad idea.

I too was very pleasantly surprised ;D by the new version. Music is fantastic and quite innovative, in my view, also good mix of actors i.e. not only very young actors. And the "captain" is great! Good cgi too and once they stopped shaking the camera it's much better Got some pics from the Collectormania in April, which I have posted in other place here on forum, but in case you haven't seen them - here they are again ;D Jamie Bamber and Katee Sackhoff (Apollo and Starbuck from new Battlestar Galactica - a great series by the way) at Collectormania looking good, Katee had the same clothes as she does in the series! www.scifi.com/battlestar/characters/daxmaryrussel --- Commander Adama: Mr. President, a wall of unidentified craft is closing in on the fleet. Baltar: Possibly a Cylon welcoming committee? Commander Adama: Sir, might I suggest we launch a "welcoming committee" of our own?
